A delightful Pair of Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Royal Portrait Figures depicting the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal, each on an untitled oval base, variants of the pair catalogued by Pugh, { Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age } as A 135 and A 136, and by Harding, { Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875 } as H 565 / H 566, to which we have here allotted the catalogue numbers H 565a and H 566a. Interestingly, Pugh observes that there are several variants of this pair of figures. In this case, each figure is wearing a hat, the Prince with his right hand to his side, his left holding a toy yacht which rests upon a small chenille covered table, he wears a jacket, neckerchief, waistcoat and trousers; the Princess, wearing a blouse, skirt and pantaloons, clasps a basket of posies in her left hand, while in her right she holds a pet bird which again rests upon a small chenille covered table.
