Description

A lovely, Restored, Early 19th Century Antique Georgian "Japan" pattern Ironstone China Comport from a recently acquired part service, unmarked other than for a Painter's monogram in underglaze red and here attributed to G.M. & C.J. Mason of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, { 1813 - 1829 }, who first introduced Ironstone China in 1813.

This restored piece is an excellent example of early stapled ceramic restoration, historically known as "ju ci" in China, an ancient, durable, and highly skilled technique used to repair broken ceramics. It involves drilling small holes on either side of a fracture and inserting, tightening, and hammering metal staples to bind the pieces together without relying solely on adhesives.
