Description

A fine and decorative Early 20th Century Vintage Italian Terracotta Sculpture of a "Mounted Knight", unmarked, but here attributed to the Florentine Studio of Eugenio Pattarino, { 1885 - 1971 }, acknowledged as one of the finest of Italy's 20th Century ceramicists. Widely admired for his religious art, examples of Professor Pattarino's work were commissioned by the Vatican as gifts for visiting dignitaries, including U.S. President, John F. Kennedy and French author and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, André Gide. Both Jean-Paul Sartre and Edith Piaf were avid collectors of his work, which was offered from a small studio in Florence. Sadly, this was completely destroyed some years ago, along with almost all extant sculptures, records and moulds, during a flash flood by the River Arno. Height ~ 42.60 cm. / 16.75 inches ~ Width ~ 45.70 cm. / 18.00 inches ~ Depth ~ 20.30 cm. / 8.00 inches ~ Weght ~ 7.00 Kg. / 15.50 lbs ~ Year ~ Circa 1930.
