Description

A good, Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Blue and White Transfer Pottery Plate from the Botanical Beauties series produced by Elkin and Newbon of Stafford Street, Longton, Staffordshire, circa 1844-45. This particular pattern is illustrated in Volume 1 of Coysh and Henrywood's Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 - 1880. Geoffrey Godden states, in his Encyclopaedia of Pottery and Porcelain Marks, that this firm was in business for just a short period, manufacturing earthenware at their Stafford Street Works from 1844 to 1845. Printed makers mark E & N, and series title, "Botanical Beauties" enclosed within a floral cartouche, printed in underglaze blue on reverse.
