An attractive Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Blue and White Transfer Indented Pottery Plate, in a medium-dark blue palette, depicting St. Vincent's Rocks, Bristol, with sailing ships and a rowing boat on the river Avon. Produced by Pountney and Goldney { 1836 - 1849 } at their Temple Back Pottery, Bristol. The picture is framed in a stringing of small scrolls and stylised leaves. The border pattern of flowers and swags suspended from rings has a stipple ground and extends into the well of the plate. A small rough patch to the glaze on the back edge at about 9.00 o'clock would appear to indicate evidence of old restoration, but there is no sign of any such to the decoration on the front of the piece. The reverse with printed title "ST VINCENTS ROCKS" within a ribbon cartouche in underglaze blue, together with impressed Maker's mark, POUNTNEY AND GOLDNEY in horseshoe form enclosing a cross.
