A scarce example of a factory marked Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure, "6. P. M." ~ H 2186, depicting a Newspaper Seller, standing, hawking copies of the "Daily News"; the title in raised capitals on the face of the square base, on the underside of which is impressed "S. SMITH LONGTON ENGLAND". It being most unusual to come across Staffordshire figures bearing a Maker's Mark of any sort, this piece, albeit relatively late in date, provides an interesting documentary example of the genre. Sampson Smith, of Longton, Staffordshire, { 1846 - 1963 }, was known to have produced such figures during the latter part of the 19th, and early part of the 20th Centuries.
