A particularly fine Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure of a Hunter ~ H 1893E, on a fine scrolled base, catalogued by Harding { Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875, Second Addendum } as Figure No. 1893E, and there described as "Very Rare and Claimed to have been made by the Dudson factory", { James Dudson, Hope Street, Hanley, Staffordshire ~ 1838 - 1882 }. An identical figure may be found illustrated, together with it's pair on Page 87 of "Dudson Staffordshire Figures c. 1815 - c. 1865", by Audrey Dudson & Alison Morgan, published by Dudson in 2006, where the pair bear the caption, "Sportsman and Lass with Dogs up by side". Standing, he wears a hat, frilled shirt with tie, jacket and knee breeches. Over his shoulder is the strap of a bag which he holds at his waist. His right hand holds the barrel of his gun with it's butt on the ground. A dead bird is suspended from his right hand and his dog sits to attention at his feet.
