A scarce Mid 19th Century Antique Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure, H 2139, lightly potted and inspired by the Public Drinking Fountains that, in the wake of the "Great Stink" of 1858 were widely installed both by public subscription, and by charities anxious to wean people away from the ale houses and gin palaces, where at the time it was believed healthier to drink beer and spirits rather than water of dubious quality such as was then available.
