A large and imposing Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure of a Highland Piper with his Dog ~ H 1662A. Catalogued by Harding, { Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835 - 1875 } as Fig. 1662A, standing, fully attired in traditional Scots dress of kilt and sporran, and holding a set of bagpipes. With a well deserved reputation both for their fierceness and their wildness, the Highland regiments played an important role in the exploits of the British Army during colonial times and were generally regarded with a mixture of fear and trepidation by the ordinary citizens of Queen Victoria's realm.
