An interesting Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Figure of "The Sultan" ~ H 02 S, catalogued as Fig. C167(a) by Pugh in his "Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Era", and by Harding, as Fig. 02 S. One of the figures to which Pugh refers as constituting the "Long Crimean Series", regarding them as being of later date than their predecessors, the "Short Crimean Series II", of which our Stock Ref. AEVSPFTSP171H03S-63 offers an example. Abd-ul-Medjid, Sultan of Turkey, { 1823 - 1861 }, was regarded as having played a difficult part well during the Crimean War, { 1854 - 1856 }, throughout which Turkey was allied with Britain and France.
