Description

A fine, large, and imposing Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Royal Portrait Figure, depicting, The Princess Royal and Prince Frederick William III of Prussia ~ P A217 ~ H 658. This well coloured figure, in which the couple are portrayed standing, on a gilt titled base, Frederick III with his right hand resting upon his hip, his left to his side, wearing a tunic with epaulettes, trousers, and a sash across his chest and waist; the Princess Royal with both hands together holding a bag, wearing a bodice and long skirt. Believed to be the earlier of two otherwise identical figures, the gilt titling here reading, PRINCESS ROYAL & FR k OF PRUSSIA, this was almost certainly produced to mark the announcement in 1857 of the betrothal of the Royal couple. Following their subsequent marriage in 1858, this titling was modified to read, PR. & PRS OF PRUSSIA, which format may be observed on pieces of later date.

Height ~ 40.60 cm. / 16.00 inches ~ Width ~ 22.00 cm. / 8.65 inches ~ Depth ~ 11.40 cm. / 4.50 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1857.
