Description

A good Early 20th Century Vintage English Brass Door Porter / Doorstop, modelled as "Mr. Pickwick" and produced as No. 11 of a limited edition of 500 for members of the Pickwick Bicycle Club, the world's oldest male cycling club, founded by six men in London in 1870 and still going strong with a long waiting list of eager would be entrants. The founders chose Pickwick as it's name following the then recent death of the author, Charles Dickens, and all members wear a special uniform as well as adopting character names from his novels. The reverse with raised title, "PICKWICK BICYCLE CLUB" set within a scrolled cartouche, together with the impressed serial number 11/500.
