Description

This striking Early 20th Century Vintage Royal Doulton English Porcelain Figurine, "Bluebeard", here catalogued as Figure No. HN 1528, and decorated in a red and purple colourway, was designed by leading artist Leslie Harradine and was issued from 1932 to 1949. The piece does however present us with something of a conundrum, since the underside, whilst marked in green with the Royal Doulton printed backstamp of the period, and with the impressed model number 745, bears neither title nor HN number. This, together with the Painter's monogram DC in black, perhaps for Doris Craine, recorded as working at Doulton to Circa 1968, raises the question as to whether the piece is in fact a"different colourway" version of Figure No. HN 2105, which was introduced in 1953. This suspicion is compounded by the fact that the figurine stands just 28.50 cm. / 11.25 inches tall, rather than the expected 29.20 cm. / 11.50 inches, thus suggesting production later rather than earlier out of the mould.

Height ~ 28.50 cm. / 11.25 inches ~ Width ~ 11.40 cm. / 4.50 inches ~ Depth ~ 10.20 cm. / 4.00 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1949 ? Constructive comment from Collectors and Fellow Dealers more than welcome. Meanwhile, the piece is offered subject to the above caveat.
